AS DEMAND for emergency healthcare soars, a group of Melbourne doctors is opening private ”urgent care” clinics to rival emergency departments and GP clinics. Dr Adam Janson said he and his colleagues had opened one such clinic in Boronia and planned to open another in Box Hill this year to help patients with non-life threatening injuries get emergency care faster than they would in a public hospital and for less cost than in a private hospital. He said patients with acute problems such as broken bones and infections could walk into the clinics without an appointment and be treated within an hour for about $150. Read more
